This week on Mamba Monday, we conclude our sustainable practice segment… but not our daily practices. Today we have compiled a few examples of sustainable buildings around the world!
1. Bullitt Center, Seattle, USA

The Bullitt Center was built in 2013; it is a six-story building with a self-sufficient water system independent from the municipal sewage system. It is also formulated to be carbon and energy neutral with photovoltaic panels that generate energy. With an ideal lifespan of 250 years, it is considered one of the world’s most sustainable buildings.
2. ACROS Fukuoka Foundation Building, Fukuoka, Japan

The ACROS Fukuoka Building was opened to the public in April 1995; since then, it has attracted many spectators due to its eco-architecture. Its design features an atrium which allows for the space to receive natural light, saving energy consumption. The building design also provides for a water drainage system similar to mountains. It enables natural irrigation to occur as waterfalls from the top of the building watering the surrounding vegetation.
3. Phipps’ Canter For Sustainable Landscapes, Pittsburgh, USA

The Phipps’ Canter For Sustainable Landscapes uses three different natural energy sources: solar, wind, and geothermal. It also runs on its own watering system, known as run-on net-zero water. This system allows water waste to be recycled while harvesting rainwater enabling the building to not rely on city water. It also features a green roof that people can visit and walkthrough.
4. Wat Pa Maha Chedi Kaew, Sisaket, Thailand

The Wat Pa Maha Chedi Kaew Temple, also known as The Million Bottle Temple, was built by Buddhist monks in 1984 out of 1 million beer bottles. It includes a mixture of green Heineken bottles and a local brown beer bottle called Chang.
5. Taipei Public Library, Beitou Branch, Taiwan

The Taipei Public Library is the first environmentally friendly building in Taiwan to receive the highest diamond rating under the EEWH certification system. It features large open windows that save Electric consumption and minimize the need for fans and air-conditioning units. The roof is also covered in photovoltaic cells that convert sunlight into electricity, and it also used harvests rainwater to use for its toilets.
JC Retrofit Construction is aware of the environmental crisis; that is why we all have to do our part to preserve our environment, including making better choices in our day-to-day lives and voting for better environmental legislation.
