Welcome to #MAMBAMONDAY ! Today we will be discussing what common material is used in foundation bolting and why it is so important.

A universal retrofit foundation plate, aka URFP-10, is used for foundation bolting. It serves as security between the mudsill and the foundation. As you can see in the right image, the mudsill is the wood layer sitting on top of the foundation. You can notice that the URFP 10 plate connects to the mudsill and foundation wall with anchor bolts on the right image.
2.Anchor Bolts

Anchor bolts are the reason why the retrofitting method is named Foundation Bolting. In the image above, you can notice the different types of anchor bolts. The anchor bolts used in a project depend on what the contractor sees fit to use for that property. The bolts used can be dependent on how strong or new the foundation wall is. It can also be dependent on the type of framing, whether there are cripple walls or not.
3.Galvanized Square Washers

The purpose of the galvanized square washer is to allow the mudsill to be fastened better and provide more security to the foundation. It is now mandatory to use 3″x3″ galvanized square washers under the anchor bolt nut, as seen in the previous image of anchor bolts. Before making them mandatory, experts found that using other square washers that were not large enough did not provide proper holding strength.
Essentially foundation bolting means that bolts are added to improve the connection between the framing structure of the home to the foundation.
